Katie Mackin had 17 kills Tuesday as third-seeded Gonzaga Prep beat No. 6 Shadle Park 27-25, 20-25, 25-21, 17-25, 15-13 in the first round of the District 8 4A tournament at G-Prep.
Brittnee Brown added 52 assists to lead the Bullpups. Brynn DeLong led the Highlanders with 23 kills and 10 digs.
In another tourney opener, No. 4 Ferris beat No. 5 Central Valley 25-10, 25-14, 25-17 at Ferris. Maddy Lorenz had 13 digs, nine kills and two aces to lead the victorious Saxons.
