Second suspect arrested in attack
A second suspect was arrested this week in a June 28 incident in which two men allegedly were assaulted with red liquid and then shot at.
Bail was set at $75,000 Tuesday when Stephanie R. Peone, 29, made a preliminary appearance in Spokane County District Court on two counts of first-degree assault.
Her co-defendant, 18-year-old Marquis Johnson – also known as Arron M. William and Dante M. Johnson – faces trial Dec. 11 in Superior Court on the same charges.
According to court documents, Peone was driving a Ford Bronco from which Johnson fired numerous shots at Jamison Eastburg and Matthew Owen near the intersection of Charles and Dover roads in western Spokane County.
Eastburg and Owen had been diving into the Spokane River from the Seven Mile Road bridge when someone in the Bronco threw an unspecified red liquid onto them, court documents state. The victims reportedly got into Eastburg’s vehicle and chased the Bronco to the intersection of Charles and Dover roads, where Eastburg pulled ahead of the Bronco and stopped.
Court documents say Eastburg tossed a Kokanee beer bottle at the Bronco and missed.
Then the Bronco stopped about 30 yards ahead of Eastburg’s vehicle, and Johnson allegedly opened fire with a .22-caliber pistol, striking the right front passenger door of Eastburg’s vehicle without injuring anyone.
Eastburg did a U-turn and fled but got a partial license number.
Deputies later found eight spent shell casings on the roadway.
