Black cat adoptions stop for Halloween

The Spokesman-Review

The Kootenai Humane Society will not offer adoption of black cats until after Halloween, the agency said Wednesday.

The policy is for the protection of cats that may be harmed, tortured or killed around Halloween.

Humane Society officials also advise owners of black cats to keep the animals indoors over the next week.

All animals should be protected during Halloween, and as the weather gets colder they all need extra care, the agency said.

The nonprofit Kootenai Humane Society shelters animals that are neglected, abused and abandoned in Kootenai County.

Traffic stop leads to drug arrest

Police seized about $150,000 in suspected drug money during a traffic stop on U.S. Highway 30.

Soda Springs police Lt. Jon Bunderson said officers arrested a man on Oct. 19 for possession of a controlled substance after a drug dog detected marijuana and cash in the bed of his pickup. The man was charged and has bonded out of jail. Bunderson said police are withholding his name because he is in danger.
