Panthers, Tigers prevail in District 8 4A contests

Oceana Bush landed a game-high 15 kills and added a team-high 10 digs to lead Lewis and Clark in a 25-14, 21-25, 25-19, 25-23 win over visiting Gonzaga Prep in a District 8 4A contest on Wednesday night.

Laurie Yearout contributed for the Tigers, adding team highs of 28 assists and three aces.

Leslie Whigham scattered the stat line for the Bullpups with eight kills, three aces, and four blocks.

In the other district game of the evening, Mead swept visiting Ferris 25-12, 25-13, 25-16.

Ashley Hutchinson took care of the offense for the Panthers, landing a game-high 10 kills, while Karyn Mockel did an admirable job setting her teammates up with 25 assists. Alex Cey contributed with nine digs.

Maddy Lorenz was tops in the kills and blocks department for the Saxons, recording eight and three, respectively.

Teammate Denae Paul registered 11 assists and Jessica Bates had 10 digs.

Mead will play LC for the district title at 5 p.m. Saturday at Mt. Spokane. The match will decide the top two seeds to the regional tournament.

Ferris will face G-Prep at 1 p.m. Saturday at Mt. Spokane for the third seed to regional. At 9 a.m., Central Valley will meet Shadle Park in a loser-out match. The winner will meet the Ferris/G-Prep loser at 7 for the fourth regional seed.
