SNAP ready to offer energy assistance
Spokane Neighborhood Action Program is now taking phone calls from people seeking help with heating expenses, on Tuesdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and Thursdays from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
In the 2005-06 energy season, SNAP helped 11,015 households with energy assistance, spending more than $5.1 million That number increased by 702 from 2004-2005.
“The need is always great. Rising prices across the board will cause people that never need assistance before to make a call this year,” said Margaret Belote, SNAP energy coordinator. “I wish I could say that there will be enough money to meet the need, but, at this time, we are unsure of funding amounts.”
For assistance, call 242-2376. Clients can access SNAP’s Web site at www.snapwa.org to make an online appointment.
