Barbecue will celebrate Meals on Wheels

Liberty Lake will celebrate a new Meals on Wheels program with a barbecue next week at City Hall.

The fledgling city has more seniors than many had assumed, said Liberty Lake finance director Arlene Fisher. Many families living in Liberty Lake bring their elderly parents to the city for more attention, and several seniors are living in the Big Trout Lodge apartment complex in the city, she said. With so many seniors around, it’s important to provide social interaction and to get food to shut-ins, Fisher said.

The barbecue begins at noon Wednesday and is open to all. The new Meals on Wheels program in the area also will help people from nearby areas such as Greenacres and Otis Orchards.
