Free story times for people of all ages are being offered next week at the Spokane Valley Branch of the Spokane County Library District. The branch, at 12004 E. Main Ave., offers story times on a weekly basis, though times vary. More information is available online at www.scld.org/branch .asp?branch=10. Next week’s story times are as follows:

Preschool story time, ages 3-5, is 10:30 a.m. Tuesday and 11 a.m. Wednesday. Preschool story times are built on picture books, finger plays, songs, puppets, and occasionally crafts or games. Parents or caregivers don’t need to stay in the story area with preschoolers, but do need to stay in the library. Story time lasts about half an hour.

Family story evening is 7 p.m. for all ages. Family story evening is designed especially for children who can’t attend daytime story times. They welcome children of all ages. Children are encouraged to wear pajamas and bring their favorite stuffed toy or blanket.

Baby lap sit, ages 18 months and younger, is 10:30 a.m., Thursday.

Baby lap sit introduces the rhythm and beauty of language to young library users. All of the activities happen with babies on adults’ laps.

Community meeting

Meet to discuss city center

Spokane Valley will hold a community meeting Sept. 13 to gather comments on its plan to revitalize Sprague Avenue and set the groundwork for a new city center.

The first of three meetings will be from 6 to 9 p.m. at Decades Meeting and Banquet Room, just west of Rosauers at Sprague and University.

Holiday closures

Most public offices closed Monday

Just a reminder – most public offices will be closed Monday in observance of Labor Day.

City Halls in Spokane Valley, Liberty Lake and Millwood will be closed until Tuesday, as will Spokane County offices.

All Spokane County Library District branch libraries and its administrative offices will be closed Monday.
