Owens plans to play in opener
Terrell Owens got in plenty of work during practice Monday in Irving, Texas, then stayed late to run some extra routes for quarterback Drew Bledsoe. He came away sounding confident that he’ll be over his hamstring injury and in the starting lineup when the Dallas Cowboys face the Jaguars in Jacksonville on Sunday.
“I feel great,” he said. “I’m ready to go.”
He admits to feeling that he has something to prove. “In a sense, yeah,” he said. “But at the same time, I’m not going to go out and make it a point. I feel like my play will do it for me.”
Foley out for season
Chargers linebacker Steve Foley will miss the season after being shot near his home in San Diego by an off-duty police officer.
Foley was placed on the non-football injured reserve list after an alleged drunk driving incident led to the shooting and landed him in the hospital.
The outside linebacker, who was being counted on to help anchor the toughest run defense in the NFL, remained hospitalized in stable condition.
Titans yet to choose QB
Coach Jeff Fisher won’t say who will start Sunday for Tennessee in the season opener against the New York Jets. The Titans will continue evaluating Kerry Collins, the 11-year veteran signed last week, and preparing rookie Vince Young. Billy Volek, who has apparently dropped out of the running for the starting position, remains on the Tennessee roster.
