YOUR BEAUTIFUL HOME
HGTV’s hot new reality show “Design Star” pits decorators and designers against one another. The survivor, and winner, gets to star in their own show on the Home and Garden Network.
Last week, episode number six featured a local family.
John and Kara Twining had a big room in the basement of their Liberty Lake home. And they have three active children under 4 years old. What they needed was a multipurpose space that would give them a place to unwind, as well as a safe place for the children to have fun.
They sent in an audition tape and the rest is history. Their project was selected and Design Star contestant David Bromstad was assigned to the Twining’s room.
Bromstad hopped a plane and spent several days in Liberty Lake. When he left, the family had their dream room.
There were a few challenges.
“The room was very long, 45 feet long and 13 feet wide,” Bromstad said. “And I wanted to create three separate spaces in the finished room.”
Pulling on his experience as a designer of children’s rooms, and purchasing all materials locally, Bromstad used color and furnishings to carve a play room, family den and an artwork spaces out of the basement.
“We had to leave while he worked,” Kara Twining said. “And the camera was on us when we saw it for the first time.”
Naturally, the Twining family, as well as friends and family, think Bromstad deserves the win.
“He is amazing,” Kara Twining said. “He’s a big guy but his personality is so approachable and warm you can’t help but like him. And he really is very talented.”
After a final challenge, the question of who will ultimately be selected to host a new decorating and design show on HGTV will be left up to viewers. The public is invited to vote on their favorite designer. The winner will be announced on Sunday Sept. 10.
As far as the Twining family is concerned the contest is over.
“Oh, David’s the winner around here,” she said. “We think he’s great.”
