Lewiston man, 24, presumed drowned in Snake River

A 24-year-old Lewiston man was believed to have drowned in the Snake River 16 miles southwest of Pullman on Wednesday evening.

Emergency workers from several agencies, including the Whitman and Garfield county sheriff’s offices, searched unsuccessfully until dusk for the body of Justin A. Swam.

Recovery efforts will continue today, Whitman County Sheriff Brett Myers said.

The apparent drowning, reported about 6 p.m., was believed to have occurred on the Garfield County side of the river.

Details of the incident were not immediately available.
