Seattle may start Lewis for Hill

Julian Peterson playfully punched locker neighbor D.D. Lewis in the gut – as playfully as a muscle-bound Seattle Seahawks linebacker can punch anybody.

“You just wore me out,” Lewis said to Peterson. “You got me with the body shots, J.P.”

That’s one way to initiate Lewis back into Seattle’s starting lineup.

The Seahawks suddenly remembered their former starter Thursday, after starting outside linebacker Leroy Hill landed on the injury list as questionable for Sunday’s opener at Detroit.

Hill, a third-round 2005 draft choice from Clemson who set a Seattle rookie record with 7 1/2 sacks, left a drill early in Wednesday’s practice after he injured his left shoulder. Linebackers coach Zerick Rollins said the shoulder may have been bothering Hill for weeks.

Lewis would start against the Lions if Hill does not, and linebacker Kevin Bentley would likely take Hill’s place in the nickel defense on passing downs. Lewis, an undrafted free agent signed in 2002, started 12 games last season before Hill’s emergence.

Jansen tempers remarks

Washington Redskins tackle Jon Jansen said it would be “very naive and foolish” to think NFL players aren’t using human growth hormone.

But he backed down from his statement that “maybe 15, 20 percent” of the league’s players use illegal performance-enhancing substances.

Jansen used those percentages during an interview broadcast Wednesday night on HBO’s “Costas Now.” If accurate, that would translate to about 300 players – including 10 or so Redskins.
