Teen section adds shelf space

The Spokesman-Review

The Spokane Valley Library has expanded its teen section on the first floor. By shuffling a few things around, library officials said they were able to add 20 percent more shelf space.

The teen section features a variety of books, magazines and other materials aimed at young adults. The section also features a couple of tables and places to sit.

Computer terminals are nearby, and earlier this year the library district added wireless Internet access to all of its libraries.

Community Meeting

Meet to discuss city center

The city of Spokane Valley will hold a meeting Wednesday for residents to comment on a study of redeveloping Sprague Avenue.

The forum will be from 6 to 9 p.m. at Decades Meeting Place and Banquet Room, next to Rosauers at University and Sprague.

Earlier this year, the City Council hired a team of urban design and transportation experts to study the decaying retail strip and help create a plan to make it more attractive and commercially viable.

Wednesday’s discussion also will include ideas for a new city center. Other community workshops are tentatively scheduled for Oct. 11 and Nov. 30.

CV board plans work session

The Central Valley School District Board of Directors will discuss escalating construction costs, skilled-labor shortages and dwindling classroom space during a special work session scheduled Monday from 6 to 7:30 p.m.

Board members will hear from architects, contractors and project managers about the current construction industry, as well as future projections. The construction industry update will be followed by a discussion with principals from the district’s elementary and middle schools about classroom space in their buildings.

After the work session – at 7:30 p.m. – the board will begin its regular meeting. As a part of the agenda, the board will be considering a resolution to place a $75.75 million construction bond on the Nov. 7 ballot.

Monday’s work session is open to the public. The meeting will be at the Central Valley School District’s Learning and Teaching Center, 19307 E. Cataldo Ave.
