Wanted: 1950s pickup

Q: Greg, I need help finding a 1950s-era pickup truck. (I prefer a Chevy.) I have searched eBay and several other Internet spots, but I am leery about what is being offered. I have called several people that have run ads in Florida newspapers, but it seems that most are project cars or trucks, and I do not want to undertake a huge project.

I have no problem maintaining a vehicle or doing minor work, but what I see is beyond what I have time for.

Is there any place that I can further my search for a pickup in the 1950-55 year range where I would get my money’s worth. Thanks for your help. — Rick, Oldsmar, Fla.

A: Try these publications, all readily available at your favorite newsstand: Auto/Truck Roundup Monthly or Truck Roundup, both popular publications feature hundreds of cars and trucks and parts for sale ( www.auto-roundup.com), or Hemmings Motor News, noted as the bible of the car collector hobby ( www.hemmings.com). You’ll find one for sure.

A: Frank, a Lincoln like yours in good condition is listed on the www.ClassicCars.com site’s price guide at $4,400, while one in excellent condition is $9,500. I’d say $2,900 is a little low, even for a quick sale.
