Chapel groundbreaking open to public

The Spokesman-Review

The public is invited to the groundbreaking for the new chapel for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Saturday at 9 a.m. at 63rd Avenue and Regal Street.

There will be a short program with singing by adult and children’s choirs, followed by a pancake breakfast.

The 16,000-square-foot building, near Mullan Road Elementary School, will be the new home of three wards. Aside from the chapel, the building will have a cultural hall, a basketball court, multiple classes and three bishop stations. Currently, the Stakes building is at 29th Avenue and Perry Street.

In 1994, the church purchased a seven-acre tract across from the elementary school. The original development of the site included a baseball field and recreational area that is open to the community.

“We are excited about building on the other half of our ground. The time is right for us to build our church,” said James Lee, president of the Spokane Stake. “We have a strong desire to be good neighbors.”
