Cheney council chooses new fire chief
The Cheney City Council has appointed a 21-year firefighting veteran to be its new fire chief.
Mike Winters, 45, will start Oct. 2. He served 18 years on the Scottsdale (Ariz.) Fire Department and has been the fire marshal in Payson, Ariz., for the last three years.
Winters replaces John Montague, who retired this summer.
Cheney has seven full-time firefighters and about 20 volunteers.
