Burglars strike East Sprague businesses

The Spokesman-Review

Four businesses on East Sprague Avenue in Spokane Valley reported being burglarized Tuesday night, according to a release from Spokane Valley Police spokesman Sgt. Dave Reagan.

The Dewalt Factory Store at 5308 E. Sprague Ave. reported that the lock on its east door was damaged but no one had entered the store, Reagan said.

The Radio Shack at 4808 E. Sprague Ave. reported that cash was missing from inside the business and the back door was open.

An alarm company in Texas had reported a burglary alarm at the store. It had the wrong address listed, though, and called Airway Heights Police, Reagan said. The Spokane Valley business was not checked at the time.

The same morning, employees at Valley Quality Homes, 17123 E. Sprague Ave., reported their door had been kicked in the night before and someone had taken a minimal amount of cash from the office. Also, a window on a service van had been smashed, Reagan said.

A pry bar hanging from the van’s window was taken by police for fingerprints.

Later that morning at Sprague and Adams Road, police investigated the theft of a change machine from a laundromat.

Anyone with information on any of these incidents is encouraged to call the police at 242-TIPS.

Car theft suspect booked on drug charge

An officer Wednesday arrested an Airway Heights man after seeing him driving a stolen car in Spokane Valley, Reagan said in a release.

A 1979 Plymouth Champ drove past a police car near Fowler Road and Empire Avenue, and the officer called in the license plate to find the car had been reported stolen in Spokane, Reagan said.

In a driveway on the 10100 block of East Empire, police arrested Andrew Russell Houston, 28, on suspicion of driving with a suspended license and for suspicion of methamphetamine possession after a small bag of the drug was found in his clothing, Reagan said,

Houston told police the car was borrowed from an acquaintance.

Shoplifting suspect charged with felony theft

A suspected shoplifting incident resulted in a felony theft charge after police and mall workers say a Spokane Valley woman attempted to steal $325 in merchandise from the Spokane Valley Macy’s.

About 6 p.m. Wednesday, police arrested Lisa Anne White of the 8000 block of East Cataldo after employees said she placed several items in a bag and left without paying for them.

Because their value exceeded $250, she was booked on suspicion of felony second-degree theft, Reagan said.

Van passenger booked on drug charge

After a traffic stop Tuesday, police arrested a Spokane Valley woman and recovered five bags of methamphetamine she had hidden after being arresting on an outstanding warrant, Reagan said in a news release.

At 11:30 a.m., an officer pulled over a van driven by Jon B. Wahl, 43, with Brandi M. Peterson, 26, in the passenger seat, Reagan said.

According to the release, the officer recognized both from previous arrests and booked them into jail on outstanding warrants.

After a strip search and the threat of a body cavity search at a hospital, Peterson eventually handed a jail officer five bags of meth she had been hiding, Reagan said.

She was booked on suspicion of felony possession of methamphetamine and possession of a controlled substance by an inmate.

Wahl was booked on suspicion of driving with a suspended license and was cited for failure to obey a traffic device and failure to provide proof of insurance.
