Easter SundaySunday Easter services planned throughout city

Easter is this Sunday, and area churches are celebrating the Resurrection with many services throughout Spokane.

The Unity Church of Truth, 2900 S. Bernard, will celebrate a Good Friday Experience at 7 p.m.

The Unity Community Players will perform a story of how the life and death of Jesus could have impacted people who have changed the world.

The cost to attend the production is by donation.

The Prayer Center of the church will offer a weekend prayer vigil after the Good Friday service from 8 p.m. until midnight and will continue Saturday from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 2715 S. Ray St., will offer Taize Prayer Around the Cross at 7 p.m. Good Friday.

A Taize Prayer service includes candlelight and meditative prayer.

The Easter Vigil service will begin Saturday at 7 p.m.

The service will feature a new fire in darkness, the water and the word of baptism and the first Resurrection meal.

The Sunday Easter service will be held at 10:30 a.m. and will include Holy Communion.

Christ the King Anglican Church, 3527 E. 29th Ave., will present a Good Friday service at 7 p.m. and an Easter service at 9 a.m. Sunday.

The Unity Center of North Spokane, 4123 E. Lincoln Road, will celebrate its Easter services at 9 a.m. and 11 a.m.

The services will feature the church’s Easter choir.

Westminster Congregational Church, 411 S. Washington St., will celebrate a Good Friday Walk at noon.

The event will remember the walk that Jesus took to the cross and will pray for Spokane and its people.

The church will also be open for prayer at 11:30 a.m. for prayer on Friday.

On Easter Sunday, the church will celebrate the Resurrection at 8:30 a.m. and 10:30 a.m.

Kimberly Monzon will sing the Alleluia from the “Exultate Jubilate” by Mozart and the choir will perform.

Between Easter services, the church will host an all-church brunch.

The Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist, 127 E. 12th Ave., will offer a soup supper today at 6 p.m. in the Great Hall. At 7 p.m. there will be a Maundy Thursday Eucharist service.

On Good Friday the church will hold a Liturgy at noon, Meditations on the Passion of Christ at 1 p.m., the Stations of the Cross at and there will be a Tenebrae service at 7.

At 7 p.m. Saturday, there will be a Great Vigil of Easter with baptisms.

On Easter Sunday, the church will celebrate Holy Eucharist celebrating the Feast of the Resurrection at 8:30 and 11 a.m.

St. John’s Lutheran Church, 2 W. Third Ave., will hold a Maundy Thursday service today at 7 p.m. with Holy Communion.

Good Friday services will be held at 7:30 p.m. and will include a narrative Tenebrae service.

The church will celebrate an Easter sunrise service at 7 a.m. on the grounds of its future site, 5810 S. Meadow Lane Road. This service will be followed by a continental breakfast at 9 and a Festival Easter worship at 10 .

Heritage Congregational Church, 1801 E. 29th Ave., will celebrate a Maundy Thursday service with Communion at 7 p.m. today.

There will be a Tenebrae service on Good Friday at 8 p.m., and on Easter Sunday, the church will celebrate a Resurrection Morning Sunday worship service at 10 a.m.

Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 1703 N. Washington St., will hold a Holy Thursday Vesperal Liturgy at 9:30 a.m. today to remember Christ’s last meal with his disciples. At 7 p.m. today the church will read 12 selections from the Gospel in a service of the Passion.

At 9:30 a.m. Friday, the church will celebrate the Royal Hours, and worshippers will keep vigil at the cross and will recount the story of the Crucifixion. The church will also prepare the representation of Christ’s tomb, which will hold the Epitaphios, the icon of Christ that will be laid in the tomb.

At 3:30 p.m., the church will hold the Vespers of the Unnailing which will re-enact taking down Christ’s body from the cross.

There will also be a Lamentations service at 7 p.m. for worshippers to express their grief over the death of Christ and their hope in the Resurrection.

Saturday services include a Vesperal Liturgy at 9:30 a.m., a Paschal vigil at 11 p.m. and a Resurrection service at 11:45 p.m.

The Holy Pascha, or Easter service will be held at 11 a.m., when the church will celebrate the Agape Vespers, or Vespers of Love. The Good News of the Risen Christ will be announced in many languages.

St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church, 5720 S. Perry St., will present a Maundy Thursday service at 7 p.m. today.

On Good Friday, the church will offer the Stations of the Cross at noon and there will be a Good Friday Liturgy at 7 p.m.

Holy Saturday brings the Great Vigil of Easter at 7 p.m. and on Easter Sunday, the church will celebrate a choral Eucharist service at 8 a.m. and 10:15 a.m.

After the 10:15 a.m. service there will be an egg hunt for the children of the church.

St. Peter Lutheran Church, 4620 N. Regal St., will observe Maundy Thursday with a 6:30 p.m. service today. There will be two Good Friday services, one at 12:15 and one at 6:30 p.m. On Saturday at 6:30 p.m., the church will present an Easter Vigil.

The Sunday school kids will get to participate in an egg hunt at 9 a.m. Easter Sunday and the service will be held at 10 a.m.

Hamblen Park Presbyterian Church and the Korean Presbyterian Church will have a joint Maundy Thursday service today at 7 p.m. in the Korean church, 1727 E. Pacific Ave.

Hamblen Park Church, 4102 S. Crestline St., will hold a Good Friday service at 7 p.m. and the chancel choir will perform, “Thy Will Be Done,” by C. Courtney.

The church will celebrate three Easter Sunday services at 8, 9:30 and 11 a.m. The chancel choir will perform the “Hallelujah Chorus” by Handel. The choir will be joined by Ron Wildey on timpani and Jeff Davenny on trumpet at the 9:30 and 11 a.m. services.

St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, 316 E. 24th Ave., will offer a Maundy Thursday worship service today at 7 p.m., which will include both Holy Communion and foot washing.

On Good Friday there will be a service of reflection and intercession at 7 p.m.

There will be an Easter Vigil at 7 p.m. Saturday which will include the service of light, baptism and Holy Communion.

Easter Sunday services will be held at 8 a.m., 9:30 a.m. and 11 a.m. and will include the St. Mark’s Chancel Choir, organ, brass and timpani.

The Interfaith Council will have its Easter Sunrise service from 6:30 to 7:30 a.m. at Greenwood Memorial Terrace, 211 N. Government Way.

Central Lutheran Church, 512 S. Bernard St., will offer Maundy Thursday services today at 10 a.m. and 7 p.m.

The Good Friday service, “The Seven Last Words of Christ,” will be at 7 p.m.

On Saturday there will be an Easter Vigil, Remembrance of Baptism at 8 p.m. There will also be an egg hunt at 11 a.m. which will begin with a story and a lunch will follow.

Easter Sunday worship services will include Holy Communion will be held at 8:30 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. and there will be an Easter breakfast served from 9 to 10:15 a.m.

St. Gregorios Syrian Orthodox Church of India, 2803 N. Lincoln, will hold Great Friday of the Passion, Veneration of the Cross and Service of the Burial of Our Lord at 5:15 p.m.

The church will offer a Service of the Resurrection Saturday at 8 p.m. and a Holy Qurbana service at 11 p.m. The late service will be followed by a potluck meal.

Moran United Methodist Church, 3601 E. 65th Ave., will present a Good Friday service at 7 p.m.

There will be a traditional Easter Sunrise service Sunday at 6:30 a.m. which will be followed by the annual men’s breakfast. There will also be an Easter Resurrection service at 10 a.m. and an egg hunt after the service.

•The Washington State University Gospel Choir, God’s Harmony, will perform Sunday at 10 a.m. at the Word of Faith Christian Center, 4001 N. Cook St.

Foothills Community Church, 11102 N. Forker Road, will present a Good Friday service featuring the church choir Friday at 7:30 p.m.

The church will celebrate Easter with three services Sunday. The sunrise service will meet at 7 a.m. and there will be a continental breakfast to follow.

There will also be worship services at 9 a.m. and 11 a.m.

Manito United Methodist Church, 3220 S. Grand Blvd., will offer a Maundy Thursday services today at 7 p.m. Participants will celebrate worship as they share the Meal of Jesus.

On Saturday at 6 p.m., the church will conclude its Lenten Film and Discussion series with the Passion of the Christ.

Pastor Joyce O’Connor-Magee from Manito will deliver the message during the Interfaith Council’s sunrise service Sunday at 6:30 a.m. at Greenwood Memorial Terrace, 211 N. Government Way, and there will be an Easter breakfast from 8 to 10 a.m. at the church. The cost of the meal is a donation.

The day will also include an Easter worship service at 10:30 a.m. and an egg hunt after the service for children five and younger.

Shiloh Hills Fellowship, 207 E. Lincoln Road, will present the Children of the World International Children’s Choir Sunday at 9 a.m. and 10:45 a.m.

The choir is made up of 16 disadvantaged and orphaned children from India, Uganda, Brazil and the Philippines who will sing in English and their native languages.

There will be a free-will donation taken at the end of the performance to benefit the World Help’s Sponsorship Program.
