Dodgers will wear No. 42
Every player on the Dodgers will be No. 42 for a day.
Los Angeles will honor the late Jackie Robinson by having all of its players wear his jersey number on April 15 when the Dodgers face San Diego at Dodger Stadium on the 60th anniversary of his becoming the first African-American player to play in a big league game.
“Jackie Robinson was a Dodger, and the most fitting tribute can pay to him is for the entire team to wear his number on the 60th anniversary of his breaking the color barrier,” Dodgers vice chairman and president Jamie McCourt said.
Phillies get Rosario
Hoping to bolster a beleaguered bullpen, the Philadelphia Phillies acquired hard-throwing right-hander Francisco Rosario from Toronto for cash Thursday.
Rosario was 1-2 with a 6.65 ERA in 17 games with the Blue Jays last year. The 26-year-old Rosario was 20-26 with a 3.38 ERA in 148 games over parts of eight seasons in the minor leagues.
Toronto revises ad
The Toronto Blue Jays have been forced to revise a television commercial featuring Frank Thomas after the ad drew objections from the Television Bureau of Canada, a regulatory body for private broadcasters.
A 30-second spot that shows the designated hitter taking part in a pillow fight with two young boys was edited to remove a scene where Thomas knocks one of the boys off a bed.
Laurel Lindsay, vice president of marketing for the Blue Jays, called the controversy over the commercial “ridiculous.”
Damon sits out
Johnny Damon has a mild strain in his right calf and was not in the New York Yankees’ lineup against Tampa Bay.
The speedy center fielder had an MRI exam earlier in the day, but the Yankees were waiting to try and determine whether it would be best to put him on the 15-day disabled list.
