Chad Flett (2-2) allowed three runs in a complete game as Whitworth beat Occidental (14-15) 9-3 in a non-conference baseball game Friday at Anderson Field in Los Angeles.

Jon Whiteside went 4 for 5 with two runs and Kyle Richardson added two hits and three RBIs for the Pirates (10-15).

“Ryan Babineau went 4 for 4 with two home runs as UCLA (15-14, 5-0 Pac-10 Conference) posted an 11-2 win over Washington (15-13, 4-4) at Los Angeles.

Softball

Southern Nevada scored four runs in the seventh and the Coyotes topped North Idaho (30-15, 18-8) 4-3 in the first game of a Scenic West Athletic Conference doubleheader at Memorial Field in Coeur d’Alene.

Maritza Espinoza went 3 for 4 with two runs and an RBI as the Coyotes (23-9, 19-7) won the second game 7-1.

“Jamie Lokken went 2 for 4 with three RBIs as Columbia Basin beat visiting CC Spokane 10-4 in the first game of a NWAACC doubleheader.

Lokken, Jackie Travis and Donna Franco had two RBIs apiece and CBC (11-10, 7-3) won the second game 10-9.

Kristine Newell, Jackie Purser and Whitney Dilworth homered for CCS (8-10, 4-4).

“Jessie LaPlante (11-0) allowed two hits in a complete game as Whitworth topped host Puget Sound (16-10, 5-9) 8-0 in six innings in the first game of a Northwest Conference doubleheader in Tacoma. Halley Cey hit a three-run homer in the fifth.

In the second game, Lindsay Davis and Sara Rylaarsdam each hit home runs as Whitworth (19-3, 14-0) won 7-2.

“Jaisa Creps hit a grand slam in UCLA’s seven-run third as the Bruins (26-9, 2-2) beat visiting Washington 10-6 in a Pac-10 game in Los Angeles. Dena Tyson, Alicia Matthews and Lauren Greer had two RBIs apiece for UW (23-10, 1-3).

Men’s rowing

Temple edged Gonzaga’s varsity 8 boat at the 20th annual George Washington University Invitational Regatta on the Potomac River. Temple finished the 2,000-meter course in 5 minutes, 34.10 seconds while the Zags clocked 5:35.90
