Many Easter services, events available
Sunday is Easter and many Valley churches will hold special services in observance of the Holy Day. Other special events include Easter egg hunts for children and an Easter drama.
“Millwood Presbyterian will host a sunrise Easter service at 7 a.m. Sunday at the Arbor Crest Winery, 4705 N. Fruit Hill Road. Those attending are advised to bring a blanket.
The congregation will also host services at 9:30 and 11 a.m. at the church, 3223 N. Marguerite Road. The services will feature accompaniment by the Project Joy brass.
“Valley Assembly of God Church will offer Easter services at 9:15 and 10:45 a.m. Sunday. There will be special events for children. The church, at 15618 E. Broadway Ave., also will finish its production of the Easter drama “The Passion.” The performance includes more than 75 actors and singers. The final performances are at 3 and 6 p.m. today and at 6 p.m. Sunday. Admission is free.
“Veradale United Church of Christ, 611 N. Progress Road, will have an informal early Easter service at 9 a.m. Sunday, followed by a 9:30 a.m. breakfast. A traditional Easter service will begin at 10:30 a.m. An Easter egg hunt for children will follow the second service.
“Opportunity Christian Church will host its annual Easter breakfast of eggs, ham and pancakes Sunday from 8 to 9 a.m. Donations will be accepted. A service will begin at 10:45 a.m., followed by an egg hunt for children through the fifth grade. The church is at 708 N. Pines Road.
“Redeemer Lutheran Church will host its annual community Easter egg hunt today at 11 a.m. There also will be a petting zoo, jumping castle and free hot dog lunch. The event is open to kids through the fifth grade. The church is at 3606 S. Schafer Road.
“An Easter breakfast of ham, eggs and pancakes will be served from 7:30 to 10:30 a.m. at Christ Lutheran Church, 13009 E. Broadway. Donations will be accepted, with proceeds going to youth activities. Worship services will begin at 8:15 and 10:30 a.m.
“Opportunity Presbyterian Church will host two services on Easter Sunday. The services will begin at 9 and 11 a.m. The church is at 202 N. Pines Road.
“Zion Lutheran Church is inviting those attending the 8:30 a.m. traditional Easter service on Sunday to bring cut flowers to decorate the cross. The service will be followed by a continental breakfast from 9:40 to 10:40 a.m. An Easter egg hunt for children in preschool through second grade will begin at 10 a.m. Those attending the contemporary service at 11 a.m. also are invited to bring cut flowers for the cross. The church is at 8304 E. Buckeye Ave.
“Spokane Valley United Methodist Church will host three Easter services. A traditional service with children’s classes will begin at 9 a.m. A contemporary service with child care available for infants will begin at 10 a.m. A second contemporary service with children’s events will begin at 11:15 a.m. The church is at 115 N. Raymond Road.
“A community Easter egg hunt will begin at 1 p.m. today at Peace Lutheran Church, 4124 N. Harvard Road. The event is for toddlers through fifth-graders. The church also will have an Easter service at 9:30 a.m.
“The congregation of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church will host its annual sunrise Easter service in the Saltese Cemetery at 6:30 a.m. Sunday. To reach the cemetery, head south on Sullivan Road from Sprague Avenue and turn left on Saltese Road.
The church will have services at the church, 810 S. Sullivan Road, at 8:30 and 10:30 a.m. Breakfast will be served from 8 to 8:30 a.m. and again from 9:45 to 10:30 a.m. An Easter egg hunt is scheduled between the two services at 10 a.m.
“A choral Eucharist will begin at 8 and 10 a.m. Sunday at the Episcopal Church of the Resurrection, 15319 E. Eighth Ave. A brunch will follow both services, and an Easter egg hunt will follow the 10 a.m. service.
“An Easter sunrise service will begin at 7 a.m. at Foothills Community Church, 11102 N. Forker Road. A continental breakfast will follow. Additional services will begin at 9 and 11 a.m.
Catholic women’s group
The Catholic Daughters of the Americas Court Madonna of the Valley will hold its next monthly meeting at 7 p.m. Wednesday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 304 S. Adams Road. Guest Katherine Showalter will speak on the Mentoring Children of Promise program.
