Zoo selects name for new tiger cub

The Woodland Park Zoo has named its new tiger cub Hadiah (HA-dee- yah), which means “gift” in the language of Sumatra.
The name was selected in an online poll of 6,700 votes on four choices.
The Sumatran tiger cub was born Dec. 12 and went on public display Monday. The cub has been raised by the zoo staff since Dec. 24 because it was abandoned by its 15-year-old mother, JoJo.

Reward offered in search for escapee
Secret Witness is offering a reward for information that leads to the arrest of a man wanted on drug and escape charges.
Richard T. Ludvik, 21, is wanted for possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver and escape from community custody, said Spokane County sheriff’s Sgt. Dave Reagan. His escape warrant stems from an original charge of riot with a deadly weapon.
Ludvik is described as a white male who is 6 feet tall and weighs 165 pounds, Reagan said. He has blond hair and blue eyes.
Anyone with information regarding his whereabouts should call (509) 327-5111. Tipsters do not have to give their name to collect the reward, but should leave a code name or number.
Police seeking to hire new dispatchers
The Spokane Police Department is looking for a few good multi-taskers to take on the job of dispatcher.
The department has four openings at this time for the job which pays $14.41 to $25.90 an hour, said Spokane Police Cpl. Tom Lee. With overtime, dispatchers can make as much as $80,000 a year, Lee said.
It takes a special person to fill the job, however. Only about 5 percent of the population has the necessary skills, Lee said.
Applications for the position will be accepted in the city’s Civil Service Department for two weeks, starting April 16. More information is available at www.spokanecity.org.
Dispatchers also will be on hand at an SCC job fair April 17 to answer questions from 8 a.m.-noon.

Pit bull attack leaves three girls injured
Three girls were injured Monday when a pit bull attacked them on a Colville school playground.
The fifth grade girls were playing at recess when the dog passed by and attacked them, said an official with the Colville Police Department.
The 8-month-old dog was taken into custody by police, and the girls were treated for minor bite and scratch wounds at a nearby clinic.
The dog will be held for 10 days in quarantine, and it was unclear Monday what its ultimate fate will be.
