Communication officers honored
The Post Falls Police Department is recognizing emergency communication officers this week in celebration of National Public Telecommunicators Week.
The Post Falls Communications Division handled more than 25,000 calls in 2006 in Post Falls and Rathdrum, according to a police news release.
“The communications officers play a vital role in the department’s ability to serve the citizens of our community,” Lt. Scot Haug said in a news release.
The department honored: Shannon Denny, Vicky Dowd, Carmel Abblitt, Suzi Koep, Michaela May, Nancy Schmuland, Amanda Hughes, Laurie Lanham, Brianne Pitt, Jennifer Nixon, Beverly Dinkel-Arford, and supervisors Joanie Huska and Charlene Holbrook.
Couple donate piano to NIC
Post Falls’ Glenn and Donna Welstad were honored at a recent reception after donating a Steinway grand piano to North Idaho College.
When the Welstad’s moved to the area, they needed to find a new home for their piano and decided the community college and its students would be most appreciative. The piano is to be used for instruction for students.
“We were trying to acquire another acoustic piano, when the Welstads called and left a message on my voice mail,” said Gerard Mathes, of the NIC music department. “I went out to their place to see the piano, and it was beautiful. This gift far surpasses what we could have purchased through the budget process.”
Spokane
Development planned
A Post Falls developer is proposing a major housing development to be known as Aspen Park for 136.8 acres on the West Plains southwest of Spokane.
The project, if approved, would include 395 single-family homes and 160 apartments on a total of 423 residential lots, said Tammy Jones of the Spokane County Planning Department. The property is west of Spotted Road and north of Hallett Road.
The development would include three public open spaces, including two to collect and handle storm water and a third to be designated as a community park.
Currently, the county is waiting for comments from government agencies that have jurisdiction over the project, including the state Department of Transportation, Health Department, public safety officials and Cheney school officials.
Jones said it will be at least two months before the project can be scheduled for a public hearing.
Owner of the project is listed as Four Square Properties of Post Falls.
A traffic analysis is being conducted. Jones said it may result in the developer making monetary contributions for improvements along Interstate 90.
