Women’s conference planned April 18-20

The Spokane Faith Center, 3330 W. Central Ave., will present the Virtuous Women’s 2007 Endurance Conference Wednesday at 7 p.m., and April 19-20 from 9:30 a.m. to 12:25 p.m. and at 7 p.m.

The conference will represent a refreshment station where women can find the word of God to refresh their spirits.

The evening sessions are free, and the full conference is $30 or $15 for one day.

The conference also will feature a tea party for girls in the sixth through the eighth grade April 19 from 4 to 6 p.m. The cost of the tea party is $5. For more information, call the Spokane Faith Center at 327-9673.

Choir concert

The Whitworth Choir will present “Songs of Hope, Joy and Peace” Sunday at 3 p.m. at St. Augustine Church, 428 W. 19th Ave.

The 45-voice choir will perform Hafso’s “Missa Pacem (Mass of Peace)” for mixed chorus, piano and percussion, selections from Benjamin Britten’s “Five Flower Songs,” Charles Ives “Circus Band, and Daniel Pinkham’s interpretation of the Thomas Campion poem, “Author of Light.”

Lectures

•Whitworth College and Gonzaga University will present a series of lectures, “Physics and the God of Abraham,” Monday through Wednesday.

The series will discuss the relationship between faith and science.

Monday at 7 p.m. Rev. Robert Spitzer of Gonzaga University will speak on the topic, “Cosmology and Creation” in the Robinson Teaching Theatre in Weyerhaeuser Hall on the Whitworth campus, 300 W. Hawthorne Road.

Steven Baldner of St. Francis Xavier University in Antigonish, Nova Scotia, will speak on the topic,”Medieval Views of Creation” Tuesday at 7 p.m. in the Wolff Auditorium of Jepson Center on the Gonzaga campus, 502 E. Boone Ave.

William Carroll of Oxford University will discuss “Divine Agency and Modern Physics” Wednesday at 7 p.m., also in the Wolff Auditorium.

The lectures are free.

Special services

•Manito United Methodist Church, 3220 S. Grand Blvd., will offer a special worship service to celebrate the members and families of Alcoholics Anonymous Sunday at 10:30 a.m.

Everyone in recovery from alcoholism is invited to attend, and there will be a reception following the service.

•First Presbyterian Church, 318 S. Cedar St., will present its annual Colossal Book Sale Sunday from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Shoppers can find best sellers, children’s books, fiction, religious and inspirational books, videos and more.

Proceeds of the sale benefit the church’s adult and children’s libraries.

•Moran United Methodist Church, 3601 E. 65th Ave., will present its annual Trading Post sale Friday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Saturday from 8 a.m. to noon.

Items for sale include plates, flatware, kitchen tools, books, crafts, small appliances, furniture and more. The event will also include a bake sale.

Proceeds of the sale will benefit the music, mission and special needs within the church.

Classes at Unity

The Unity Church of Truth, 2900 S. Bernard, is presenting Prosperity Class, “The Trance of Scarcity” on Mondays from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. now through May 7.

The cost of the class is by donation.

The Unity Church will present its Spiritual Cinema Wednesday at 7 p.m.

The movie, “In to See Me,” deals with heartbreak and healing. Admission to the film is by donation.
