Associated Press The Spokesman-Review

Jarrett Jack scored 25 points, Travis Outlaw matched his career-high with 22 and the Portland Trail Blazers beat Seattle 108-102 Saturday night in Portland, leaving the SuperSonics alone in the Northwest Division cellar.

Rashard Lewis had 29 points for the Sonics, who have lost seven of their last eight and have the fifth-worst record in the NBA. Chris Wilcox added 20.

The Blazers and Sonics entered the night with identical 31-47 records and each are missing multiple players due to injuries. The Blazers, already down four players, rested Brandon Roy, who has been bothered by sore knees.

Martell Webster added 17 points for Portland, which snapped a three-game losing streak. Jamaal Magloire had 15 rebounds.

Mike Wilks had 17 points and 11 assists for the Sonics.

Lewis has shouldered the load for Seattle since leading-scorer Ray Allen went out a week ago. Lewis has averaged 28.5 points in his last four games. The 6-foot-10 forward, who becomes a free agent at the end of the season, had 30 in Seattle’s 109-91 loss to Phoenix on Wednesday.

Portland led 60-50 at halftime, using a 14-3 run to gain a second-quarter advantage.

Seattle went on a 14-3 run to open up the second half, taking a 70-69 lead on two free throws from Wilcox. Portland led 79-78 after the third quarter.

The Blazers led by as many as nine in the fourth, going up 93-84.

Portland led 101-96 on a layup from Jack at 2:42, but Wilcox hit two free throws for the Sonics. Outlaw extended the lead with a jumper at 1:08 and Webster stepped in front of a bad pass from Wilks.

Jack hit 5 of 6 free throws in the last 44.9 seconds for Portland.

Magic 104, 76ers 87: At Philadelphia, Dwight Howard was perfect for a half and dominant the whole game, scoring a career-high 35 points with 11 rebounds to lead Orlando to a win over Philadelphia.

The Sixers had no answers around the basket for Howard, who made all 10 shots in the first half and passed his previous high of 32 points with a free throw late in the fourth quarter.

The loss officially knocked the Sixers out of playoff contention.

Cavaliers 110, Hawks 76: At Cleveland, LeBron James scored 23 points, Sasha Pavlovic added 15 and Cleveland beat Atlanta. Zydrunas Ilgauskas had 14 points and Larry Hughes 13 points for the Cavs, who had a 28-point lead at halftime.

Atlanta forward Joe Johnson and guard Speedy Claxton will sit out the final three games of the season because of injuries that have nagged the last-place Hawks for months.

Grizzlies 133, Nuggets 118: At Memphis, Tenn., Chucky Atkins had 28 points and 12 assists and Tarence Kinsey scored a career-high 28 to lead Memphis to a victory over Denver, snapping the Nuggets’ season-best eight-game winning streak.

Memphis ended a six-game losing skid and had six players score in double figures.

Bobcats 113, Bucks 92: At Milwaukee, rookie Walter Herrmann scored a season-high 30 points and Charlotte hit a flurry of open 3-point shots to beat Milwaukee.

The Bobcats shot 9 for 17 from 3-point range as Milwaukee’s perimeter defenders often got stuck trying to help out their undermanned interior defense.

Rockets 123, Hornets 112: At Houston, Yao Ming scored 30 points, Tracy McGrady got 11 of his 25 points in the final 5 minutes and Houston snapped a three-game home losing streak with a win over New Orleans.

Rafer Alston added 21 points and a season-high 13 assists for the Rockets.

Suns 126, Jazz 98: At Salt Lake City, Steve Nash had 18 assists, Leandro Barbosa scored 28 and Phoenix moved one step closer to clinching the No. 2 seed in the Western Conference with a victory over Utah, avoiding a season sweep with a blowout.

The Suns won their fifth in a row and need to win one of their last two or have San Antonio lose once in its final three games to lock up the second-best record in the NBA.
