Prep roundup: Pounder, Skillingstad take care of business

Softball

Mead’s Taneesha Pounder and Shadle Park’s Sam Skillingstad hurled pitches Friday as if they had something to prove.

Pounder pitched a five-inning perfect game as Mead (10-4) routed host Lewis and Clark (0-13) 10-0 at Hart Field. Skillingstad tossed her second no-hitter in as many days while striking out 15 as the Highlanders trampled host East Valley (4-9) 20-0 in five innings in the Greater Spokane League.

Pounder, making her first start since April 13, struck out six while walking none. She also doubled.

Skillingstad (13-0), who no-hit Mt. Spokane on Thursday, also hit two home runs for Shadle (13-0).

Elsewhere in the GSL, Chelsea Gray allowed one run on three hits as Mt. Spokane routed host Rogers 12-1 in five innings. Jenn Andrews went 2 for 4 with three runs and two RBIs for the Wildcats (6-8). Denisha Whitehead had a double and triple to lead the Pirates (5-9). … Mollie Buelow allowed two hits while striking out six as University blanked visiting Ferris (1-13) 13-0 in five innings. Ali Warren went 3 for 4 and knocked in three runs to lead the Titans (11-3). … Mickenzie Alden hit a two-run homer in the sixth as Central Valley (8-6) edged visiting North Central (12-2) 6-4. The Bears’ Stefani Siddoway added a three-run triple in CV’s four-run third inning.

Track and field

The Lakeland girls and Timberlake boys took first place at the Lakeland Relays at Rathdrum. The Lakeland girls won the shot, pole vault, hurdle, sprint medley, 800-meter and weight person relays. The Freeman girls were second, followed by Timberlake. For the boys, Timberlake won the long jump, triple jump, distance medley, sprint medley, 1,600, 400, 3,200 and coed relays. The Newport boys finished second, followed by Freeman.

Baseball

Kyle Cady’s RBI single in the top of the eighth drove in Glen Reeser and gave Mead a 5-4 win over host University (10-4) in Greater Spokane League action. Reeser finished 3 for 3 with three RBIs for the Panthers (9-5). … Also in the GSL, Nic Fowler pitched a two-hitter while striking out 11 as Mt. Spokane blanked host Ferris (7-7) 6-0. Paul Smith hit a three-run homer in the third to put the Wildcats (13-1) ahead 5-0. … Russell Woodworth was 5 for 5 with two RBIs as East Valley (5-9) edged host Gonzaga Prep (6-10) 11-9. Woodworth hit a two-run home run in the first and fell a double short of hitting for the cycle. … Alex Banderas went 3 for 3 with two runs as Central Valley beat visiting Shadle Park (6-8) 9-2. Banderas also earned the win for the Bears (8-8) after allowing two runs on six hits in six innings. … North Central scored four runs in the fourth and beat host Rogers (5-9) 5-3. Aaron Robinson went 2 for 2 with an RBI for the Indians (8-8).

Boys soccer

Eric Alexander set a school record with his 13th goal of the season as Lakeside-Nine Mile Falls (10-2, 8-2) blanked visiting West Valley (3-9, 3-6) 6-0 in the Great Northern League.
