Devil Rays 6, Yankees 4: At St. Petersburg, Fla., Tampa Bay pitching cooled off Alex Rodriguez, and Carl Crawford hit his first career grand slam to rally the Devil Rays over Chien-Ming Wang and New York, extending the Yankees’ losing streak to five games. Rodriguez’s 23-game hitting streak came to an end. He had hit safely in 18 consecutive games to start the season and 23 straight dating to last September.
Indians 5, Twins 3: At Minneapolis, Johan Santana lost his second straight home start and Fausto Carmona got a long-awaited win in Cleveland’s victory over Minnesota. Carmona snapped a skid of 11 straight losing decisions, giving him his first victory since making his major league debut on April 15, 2006.
Blue Jays 10, Red Sox 3: At Boston, Vernon Wells went 4 for 5 with a home run, four runs scored and three RBIs and Roy Halladay struck out 10 in eight innings as Toronto took advantage of four Boston errors to beat the Red Sox.
Angels 9, Tigers 8 (10): At Anaheim, Calif., Detroit closer Todd Jones’ throwing error led to the winning run for Los Angeles, which blew a seven-run lead before beating Detroit in 10 innings. In a wild game that had both closers blowing saves, the Angels made the last rally.
Athletics 4, Orioles 2: At Baltimore, Dallas Braden pitched six innings of three-hit ball to win his major league debut, and Oakland beat the Orioles for a two-game sweep.
White Sox 8, Royals 7: At Kansas City, Mo., Pablo Ozuna drove in the go-ahead run with an infield single in the top of the ninth and Chicago outlasted the Royals.
