County panels seek members

From Staff Reports The Spokesman-Review

Spokane County commissioners are seeking volunteers for vacancies on seven advisory boards and commissions, including the county Planning Commission.

The Planning Commission opening is for someone who lives in the northern district represented by Commissioner Todd Mielke. The same applies to a vacancy on the No Shooting Advisory Board.

The Mental Health Advisory Board and the Noxious Weed Control Board each have one opening for someone who lives anywhere in the county.

An opening on the Developmental Disabilities Advisory Board is limited to candidates from the business community. Commissioners want someone with insight into employment issues that developmentally disabled people face.

There are openings on the Housing and Community Development Advisory Committee for two people who live anywhere in the county and for one resident each of Spokane Valley, Millwood and Waverly. The municipal appointments will be made by the mayors of those communities.

The Housing and Community Development Advisory Committee meets monthly to help oversee the expenditure of more than $2.7 million in federal community development and housing grants.

The Solid Waste Advisory Committee has one at-large opening and three for people from various public interest groups.

An application form is available on the county’s Web site: www.spokanecounty.org/
