Valley in brief: Blaze destroys garage, vehicles

The Spokesman-Review

A fire destroyed a garage, two late-model cars and the wall of a storage shed behind a house in Spokane Valley on Sunday evening.

In a news release, Assistant Valley Fire Chief Dave Lobdell said 18 firefighters in six vehicles were dispatched at 5:45 p.m. to 216 N. Skipworth Road, where they found the detached garage engulfed in flames. Its contents, including a 1987 Pontiac and a 1984 Camaro parts car, were destroyed, Lobdell said.

No one was injured, but the fire burned part of another outbuilding and damaged a 1986 Camaro in the yard. The cause of the fire remained under investigation.

Mmm … cops and fundraisers

It’s been a long-held tradition that cops love doughnuts. That’s why the Medical Lake Police Department is taking part in the “Cops On Doughnut Shops” fundraiser to benefit Special Olympics Washington.

From 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. May 4-6, officers from multiple agencies will perch atop Krispy Kreme, 15401 E. Indiana, near the Spokane Valley Mall.

Volunteers will collect donations and sell law enforcement merchandise and raffle tickets. Krispy Kreme will offer free doughnuts, coffee, punch cards, shirts and hats.
