Calls include 10 fire alarms, four fires

The Spokesman-Review

In another fairly light week for Valley Fire, there were 178 calls for emergency service between April 17 and Monday.

Of four structure fires reported, one turned out to be serious.

Three late-model cars were damaged during a garage fire at 216 N. Skipworth Road Sunday evening.

No one was injured, and department spokesman Bill Clifford said the fire caused about $10,000 in damage to the garage, its contents and a shed.

Of 10 fire alarms that week, all turned out to be false or minor. One resulted from a broken water pipe near the freezer at Percy’s Cafe Americana at Sprague Avenue and University Road, Clifford said.

Of 15 vehicle accidents reported, six required transportation to the hospital, he said.

Three reports of hazardous materials, two service calls and 144 medical emergencies rounded out the week.
