Pirates 3, Reds 1: At Pittsburgh, Ian Snell limited Cincinnati to six hits over seven shutout innings, and Jason Bay’s two-run double got Pittsburgh going in the first inning of a victory.

Nationals 4, Mets 3: At Washington, Austin Kearns hit a three-run homer, Matt Chico gave up two runs and walked only one batter in 5 1/3 steady innings and Washington beat New York.

Cubs 5, Cardinals 3: At St. Louis, center fielder Felix Pie hit his first career home run in Chicago’s victory over St. Louis. Left fielder Alfonso Soriano threw out two runners, one at the plate.

Brewers 4, Astros 1: At Houston, J.J. Hardy’s two-run double off Roy Oswalt capped a three-run seventh inning, and Milwaukee beat Houston.

Phillies 6, Marlins 5: At Philadelphia, Carlos Ruiz’s infield single with the bases loaded in the ninth gave Philadelphia a victory over Florida.

Braves 9, Rockies 7: At Denver, Andruw Jones hit a three-run homer and Atlanta scored eight runs with two outs in a win over Colorado. Edgar Renteria had four singles and two RBIs for the Braves.

Diamondbacks 3, Giants 2: At Phoenix, Arizona walked Barry Bonds intentionally three times with runners in scoring position, including in the ninth inning, and the Diamondbacks defeated San Francisco.

Dodgers 6, Padres 5: At San Diego, Trevor Hoffman disappointed a sellout crowd at Petco Park by giving up four runs in the ninth inning as Los Angeles rallied to stun San Diego.
