EV not deserving
I am writing in response to the article (“EV’s stingy defense stifling soccer foes,” April 23) praising East Valley’s soccer team.
East Valley has gone 9-4 this season, but how it got to the top of the GSL is not by way of a “strong back line” and “finding their midfielders.” They have only reached the top by being overly aggressive and using dirty tactics to manhandle opposing teams.
As a soccer enthusiast, I have observed almost every team in the GSL this year and I am astounded that East Valley has gotten away with such nasty playing habits. Along with the team being undeserving of the GSL championship, their parents are verbally insulting to visiting teams and their families. Dirty playing fueled by dirty parent encouragement.
Furthermore, members of their team will be nominated to be All-GSL solely because they are in first, not because their players are the best. I am deeply saddened by the way this team has been allowed to play and how they get rewarded and praised for their nasty, unsportsmanlike conduct.
If only you could see that there are far better, more deserving teams in the GSL that have made astonishing progress since last year by playing smart, clean soccer. I hope you will give them the praise they deserve.
