Baseball

Lake City swept first-place Lewiston (18-4, 14-3) in an Inland Empire League doubleheader Saturday in Lewiston.

Kyle Johnson had four hits, including two triples, as the Timberwolves (14-6, 10-5) won the opener 14-7.

Lake City scored nine runs in the final two innings to put the game away.

In game two, Johnson and Nick Combo had three hits apiece as the Timberwolves won 7-1.

Alex Capaul earned the win for Lake City after allowing three hits in the complete game.

Elsewhere in the IEL, Sandpoint swept host Post Falls (8-14, 5-11) in a doubleheader. Jake Semones went 2 for 4 with two RBIs as the Bulldogs won the opener 8-2. Tyler Lichty earned the win for Sandpoint after allowing five hits in the complete game. The Bulldogs won game two 7-0. Cory Hawkins went the distance for Sandpoint (11-11, 8-7), allowing four hits in a complete-game effort.

“Bonners Ferry swept host Priest River (10-8, 7-5) in an Intermountain League doubleheader. Ross Patterson allowed three hits while striking out nine in going the distance as the Badgers won the opener 5-3. Chris James drove in two runs to lead Bonners Ferry. The Badgers won game two 11-3. James earned the win for Bonners Ferry (16-5, 8-1) after scattering eight hits while striking out 11 in the complete game. … Elsewhere in the IML, Jason Edwards hit a solo homer in the first and finished with two RBIs as Timberlake topped host St. Maries 10-4 in the first game of a doubleheader. The Tigers (3-16, 3-8) scored six runs in the fifth to go ahead 10-1. In game two, Dalton Baker struck out the first seven batters and the Lumberjacks (10-9, 6-3) routed Timberlake 10-0 in five innings. Baker threw a complete game one-hitter and finished with nine strikeouts. Baker also hit a three-run homer in St. Maries’ four-run third inning. He finished with two hits and four RBIs. Anthony Avalos added a solo shot in the second.

Beau Brett hit a grand slam in Ferris’ 11-run fourth as the Saxons routed visiting Rogers (6-11) 22-0 in five innings in the Greater Spokane League. Brett finished 3 for 5 with five RBIs. Andrew Kittredge earned the win for Ferris (9-8) after throwing a one-hitter while striking out eight in the complete game.

Softball

Sammy Byers’ RBI single in the bottom of the seventh scored Angela Pegram and gave Lewiston (13-9, 9-7) a 4-3 win over visiting Lake City in the first game of an Inland Empire League doubleheader. Pegram finished with three hits for the game, including a double. The Timberwolves won game two 6-1. Jessica Ross hit a home run for Lake City. Kimberly Lynn picked up the win for the Timberwolves (14-7, 9-6) after allowing seven hits in the complete game. … Elsewhere in the IEL, Coeur d’Alene swept host Post Falls (11-10, 7-8) in a doubleheader. Jenna DeLong pitched a complete game five-hitter while striking out 12 as the Vikings won the opener 6-1. Kathy Comack hit a two-run double in Coeur d’Alene’s three-run second-inning. The Vikings (20-1, 14-1) won game two 5-2. Amber Colburn hit a three-run homer in the sixth to extend Coeur d’Alene’s lead to 5-0. … Lakeland swept host Sandpoint (3-17, 0-15) in a doubleheader. Amanda North knocked in three runs as the Hawks won the first game 4-2. Lakeland scored three runs in the top of the seventh. Jamie Klopatek earned the win for the Hawks after striking out eight in the complete game two-hitter. In game two, Lakeland scored six runs in the first and cruised to an easy 9-4 win. Alyssa Horsley and Stephanie Hewett had two RBIs apiece to lead the Hawks (7-15, 3-11). Alisha Watson picked up the win after allowing three runs through six innings of work.

“Timberlake swept host St. Maries (7-9, 4-5) in an Intermountain League doubleheader. Kayla Allred pitched a complete game one-hitter while striking out eight as the Tigers won the opener 7-0. Megan Hill added two hits and a run batted in for Timberlake. The Tigers won game two 11-1. Holly Edelblute went 3 for 4 with a double, triple and six RBIs to lead Timberlake (16-5, 11-0). … Elsewhere in the IML, Priest River swept visiting Bonners Ferry (0-12, 0-9) in a doubleheader. Danni Hawes hit two home runs to lead the Spartans to a 13-3 win in the opener. In game two, Hawes went 4 for 4 with five RBIs as Priest River won 16-3. Sara Larsen added a solo homer for the Spartans (6-14, 5-7).

Soccer

Information on the postseason Greater Spokane League soccer matchups that appeared in Saturday’s paper had the wrong days for the 4A matchups.

In the 4A district tournament, No. 4 seed Ferris plays No. 5 Central Valley at 5 p.m. Wednesday at Albi Stadium. No. 3 seed Mead and No. 6 Gonzaga Prep follow at 7.

University is the top seed in the 4A district tournament and will play No. 2 Lewis and Clark Friday at 7 p.m. at Albi Stadium with the district tournament and a state berth on the line. The early game will feature Wednesday’s winners playing at 5 p.m. The district tournament will conclude May 8 at Albi with GSL/Columbia Basin League play-in games to be played May 12 at times and sites to be announced.
