Mukogawa sewer work progressing

The project to replace an 8-inch sewer main in the Mukogawa sewer system on the Mukogawa Fort Wright Campus off of Fort George Wright Drive is progressing.

Signs directing traffic to the wedding chapel, reception building, and other buildings on campus are in place. The project should be complete mid-September.

Turnbull refuge meeting Aug. 14

The annual general membership meeting of the Friends of Turnbull National Wildlife Refuge will be Aug. 14 at the refuge headquarters from 6 to 8 p.m. Members are asked to bring a salad or dessert to add to the potluck dinner from 6 to 7. Burgers, hot dogs and drinks will be provided.

John Dorwin of Eastern Washington University will share a presentation on the use of plants by Native Americans on the Columbia Plateau.

Seeking donations of kids’ bikes

Pedals2People is seeking donations of children’s bicycles for youth in the community and will pick them up or you may drop them off.

The nonprofit group will fix the bicycles and then donate them to an ongoing list of children in need. Eighty-five bicycles have been rehabilitated and donated so far this summer, but there is still a list of over 30 area youth from age 3 to 15 in need of bicycles.

DQ Blizzard sales benefit Miracle

Dairy Queen will present Miracle Treat Day next Thursday to benefit Children’s Miracle Network.

The proceeds from all Blizzard sales will benefit the charity.

This year there is a special message on some of the Blizzard Cups from Spokane resident Jacob Bogdanoff, a 5-year-old who has been treated for leukemia.

‘Musical’ tryouts Sunday, Monday

Auditions for the Spokane Children’s Theatre production of Disney’s “High School Musical” will be held at Spokane Community College, 1810 N Green St., in the Lair Auditorium at 5 p.m. on Sunday and at 6 p.m. on Monday. Callbacks will take place on Aug. 7 at 6 p.m.

There are more than 20 roles available for boys and girls age 13 and older. There is also one adult female role. Wear comfortable clothes for dancing and come prepared with a one-minute song.
