Primary ballots coming; postmark deadline Aug. 21

From Staff Reports The Spokesman-Review

Voters around Spokane County can expect their ballots for the Aug. 21 primary to show up in their mailboxes as early as today and no later than next week.

The county mailed nearly 157,000 ballots Wednesday to voters on its rolls who live in cities or districts that have more than two candidates for any office up for election this fall.

That includes voters in the cities of Spokane, Spokane Valley, Cheney and Spangle, school districts for Orchard Prairie, Nine Mile, Riverside and Newport, Elections Manager Mike McLaughlin said.

Ballots for voters in those districts who have only recently registered will be mailed out today and Friday as processing is completed, McLaughlin added.

About 1,200 ballots were mailed last week to members of the Armed Services who are deployed overseas.

Ballots must be marked and placed in the mail so that they are postmarked no later than 8 p.m. Aug. 21.

They can also be dropped off at boxes set up through the primary at any library, or on Election Day at five voter service centers:

•County Elections Office, 1033 W. Gardner Ave.

•North Spokane Library, 44 E. Hawthorne Ave.

•St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, 316 E. 24th Ave., Spokane

•CenterPlace, 2426 N. Discovery Place, Spokane Valley

•Cheney Library, 610 First St., Cheney.
