R-Hawks win home finale 9-0

The Spokane RiverHawks ended their home schedule in style with a 9-0 West Coast Collegiate Baseball League victory Wednesday night over the Bellingham Bells at the Patterson Complex.

Spokane scored six runs in the first inning and four RiverHawks pitchers combined on a seven-hit shutout for the team’s second consecutive victory after 11 straight losses.

The RiverHawks, 11-28 in the East, conclude their season with a three-game series at Kitsap beginning Friday.

The RiverHawks scored all six first-inning runs with two out and with just one hit, Phil Boscarino’s single to lead off. Bells pitcher Billy Krause walked five batters, hit two more and was charged with two balks in the inning.

Tyson Vanwinkle and Shawn Gizynski had two hits each for Spokane, Shawn Wayt slugged a two-run homer and Chris Bozo also had two RBIs.

Spokane starter Kraig Sitton picked up the win.
