Get out, get going

Scottish celebration

» Today is a celebration of all things Scottish at the annual Highland Games at the Spokane County Fair and Expo Center. There will be information on Scottish clans and there will be plenty to do and see for those without any Scottish ancestry. There will be vendors, competitions (caber toss, anyone?), historical demonstrations, music, food and children's events. The gates open at 9 a.m. today and the closing ceremony is at 5 p.m. Admission is $4 for adults, seniors and youth ages 11-17. Children ages 4-10 are $3 and children under 4 are free.

» Adults are invited to a Ceilidh, or Scottish party, beginning at 6 p.m. There will be dancing, music and singing until 9. The fairgrounds are at 404 N. Havana St.

Can you spare a pen?

» If you find a good sale on school supplies today, pick up a few extra items for the school-supply drive at the Trading Company Store, 13014 E. Sprague Ave. Folders, notebooks, paper, pens, pencils, glue sticks and pencil sharpeners are needed. The donated items will be given to elementary schools in the Central Valley School District for needy children.

» The drive will be in the parking lot from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. There also will b e some family activities during the day. Call 928-9122 for more details.
