Water lovers looking for a summer job next year can take advantage of a lifeguard training course at Holmberg Pool in the coming weeks.

The class runs from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Aug. 18 through Aug. 21.

Those who complete it and acquire cards from the American Red Cross could be eligible to work at pools around the area that are always on the lookout for qualified lifeguards.

“It can be a fantastic job for the summer,” said Spokane County Recreation Program Coordinator Randy Johnson.

County parks officials expect to hire 25 new lifeguards to supervise a new aquatic facility south of Spokane, in addition to the 65 stationed at the county’s other pools.

Those taking the course must be 15 or older as of Aug. 21 and be able to swim 300 yards.

The course costs $80 plus $35 for books and includes professional first aid and CPR training.

Registration is available at county parks department office at 404 N. Havana St. For more information, call (509) 477-4730.
