Police seek more from tipster about credit card thief

From Staff Reports The Spokesman-Review

The Spokane Valley Police Department issued the following reports for the week ending Aug. 4:

Police are requesting a call back from a tipster who last week identified a man stealing credit cards at the Spokane Valley YMCA. The theft occurred July 15. The suspect entered the athletic complex at Mirabeau Park, removed a padlock from a locker in the men’s room and stole two credit cards.

The thief apparently drove directly to the nearby Best Buy and Circuit City stores and purchased $4,000 worth of electronic items. He later charged a $15 item at a HiCo Convenience store.

Security cameras at the YMCA captured the man on video leaving the locker room. Local TV media broadcast the photo on the evening news shortly after the incident and a person wishing to remain anonymous called the YMCA and identified the man.

However, the information was not specific enough and review of similarly-named suspects’ booking photos failed to match the named individual with the suspect in the YMCA pictures.

Property crimes Detective Kirk Keyser hopes the tipster will call and speak with him directly under condition of anonymity, or call his desk number, 477-3325, and leave the date of birth, middle name or home address of the suspect.
