Man accused of assault arrested after chase
Spokane County sheriff’s deputies arrested a Spokane Valley man early Tuesday on charges he assaulted a woman and then led officers and a police dog on a four-hour chase.
Officers were called to an apartment at 10105 E. Main Ave. about 12:20 a.m., when a resident reported hearing screams from a neighboring apartment, said Spokane County sheriff’s Sgt. Dave Reagan.
A bloodied woman rushed out and warned the officers that a man inside was armed with a pistol. The victim had a restraining order against the man, 43-year-old Willie C. Porter.
When the deputies went into the apartment, they found Porter had pushed an air conditioner out of a wall to escape.
Deputies later caught Porter and arrested him on charges of assault, unlawful imprisonment, unlawful possession of a firearm and violating a protection order. Deputies did not find the gun.
