Anglo-Catholic rite planned

The Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist, 127 E. 12th Ave., will hold an Anglo-Catholic service Sunday at 4 p.m.

The service, in honor of St. Mary the Virgin, which also is known as “High Church,” is a very formal service that includes vestments, incense and chanting. The choir will sing “Ave Maria” by Tomas Luis de Victoria.

The cathedral also will be open for self-guided tours from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday.

Buddhist retreat

Dr. Kenji Akahosi will conduct a Buddhist retreat from Aug. 17 at 7 p.m. to Aug. 19 at 11 a.m. at Mukogawa Fort Wright Institute, 4000 W. Randolph Road.

Cost is $140 per person, including lodging and meals.

Registration deadline is Sunday.

Vacation Bible school

Living Word Christian Center, 3525 E. 57th Ave., will present “Avalanche Ranch,” a Vacation Bible School for kids in kindergarten through the sixth grade, Sunday through Thursday from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Activities will include games, fun on inflatables and wagon rides with the Mount Lamm Belgians and more.

A family dinner will be available every night during the Bible school at 5 p.m.
