Open house planned at Albi
Joe Albi Stadium will host an open house on Saturday from noon to 7 p.m. in an effort to reacquaint the people of Spokane and the Inland Northwest with their stadium. Free parking is available, and there is no charge to get in to the event.
Many improvements have been made to the stadium lately, including the addition of top-of-the-line new turf by the Spokane School District 81 last summer. The open house will be an opportunity for local residents to come out and see what has been going on at the stadium, and offer suggestions for alternate uses in the future. Usually the stadium is only available for specific events, such as GSL games, but officials are looking to expand the stadium’s uses.
Activities for kids will be run by SYSA and the Spokane Skyhawks and will be held on the field. Kiwanis is providing a jumping castle, and Clearwater Music is providing band instruments for kids to try.
Local candidates for office are slated to attend the event throughout the day.
Spokane Valley
Fundraiser scheduled
Adelarain Richardson was born June 14 with lissencephaly, a rare brain malformation in which the brain is smooth and doesn’t have the complex series of ridges and valleys. The doctors only expect her to live a couple of months.
Her grandmother, Charlotte McClendon, is planning a fundraiser for Adelarain’s family.
Since Adelarain was born, her mother, Krystal has had to stay home to take care of her newborn, and Adelarain’s father, Talon, recently started a new job. Money is tight and the medical bills are mounting.
McClendon has opened an account for the family at Horizon Credit Union, 201 N. Mullan Road, for those who would like to make monetary donations. The credit union can be reached at 928-6180.
McClendon is planning to hold a spaghetti feed complete with raffles of gift certificates and more. She plans on getting food donated for the event, but is in need of a place to have the dinner. She is planning to have the dinner Sept. 1.
As of right now, the Spokane Indians and Chiefs, Longhorn Barbecue, and the Chic-A-Ria Restaurant have made donations to the dinner.
If you would like to make a donation, McClendon can be reached at 868-4438 or 534-1806.
