Baynes hits 9 of 9 during win
Washington State University sophomore Aron Baynes hit all nine of his shots from the floor and finished with 21 points to lead his home country of Australia to a 96-52 romp over Angola in men’s basketball action at the World University Games early this morning at Bangkok, Thailand.
Baynes, who tied for game-high scoring honors with teammate Carlin Hughes, also grabbed a game-high nine rebounds – six off the offensive glass.
Baynes helped Australia (1-2) shoot 58 percent (38 of 65) from the floor, including 73 percent (30 of 41) from two-point range. The Australians outscored Angola 56-20 in the paint.

Track and field
Spokane Falls Community College throwing coach Ryan Weidman broke the National USATF javelin record for men aged 35-39 at the USA Masters Weight Pentathlon Championships at SFCC on Saturday.
Weidman’s throw of 224 feet, 6 inches bettered the mark of 221-2 by Ron McConnell in 2000.
Former Olympian Tom Gage (1972 Games) won the shot put, hammer throw and weight throw in the men’s 60-64 group. Fellow former Olympian Ed Burke (1964 and 1968) won the hammer in the men’s 65-69 group.
