Devil Rays 3, Rangers 0: At Arlington, Texas, Edwin Jackson pitched a four-hitter for his first career complete game, sending Tampa Bay to a victory over Texas. Carl Crawford tripled and had two hits for the Devil Rays, extending his hitting streak to 12 games – one short of his career high.
Yankees 11, Indians 2: At Cleveland, Alex Rodriguez kept up his unrelenting surge against the Indians – six homers in five games – and New York cruised to a victory. Rodriguez hit a pair of two-run homers and Jason Giambi added a pinch-hit homer for the Yankees.
Royals 3, Blue Jays 1: At Kansas City, Mo., Alex Gordon went 3 for 3 with a two-run homer and Leo Nunez combined with two relievers for a four-hitter as the Royals defeated Toronto. Kansas City’s Joakim Soria got the final four outs for his 13th save in 16 opportunities.
Red Sox 6, Orioles 2: At Baltimore, Josh Beckett came within one out of a shutout and became the first major leaguer to reach 15 wins this season, and Julio Lugo and J.D. Drew drove in two runs apiece to help Boston beat the Orioles.
Tigers 5, Athletics 2: At Detroit, Magglio Ordonez homered and Justin Verlander won for the first time in four weeks as the Tigers beat Oakland. Verlander (12-4) hadn’t won since July 15, and gave Detroit its second win from a starter in its last 24 games.
Angels 4, Twins 3: At Los Angeles, John Lackey earned his 15th win, to match Josh Beckett, and Maicer Izturis hit a go-ahead homer in the eighth, rallying the Angels to a victory over Minnesota. Lackey (15-6) allowed two runs and 10 hits over eight innings and struck out three. Francisco Rodriguez finished for his 29th save.
