TUESDAY

Kohl’s Department Stores planned to begin hiring 300 people for stores the large Midwest retailer will open this fall at NorthTown Mall in Spokane and just off U.S. Highway 95 in Coeur d’Alene. Job fairs were scheduled through Tuesday for people interested in full- and part-time positions.

“ American Home Mortgage, which had been the nation’s 10th- biggest home lender, filed for bankruptcy, but all 19 employees of the company’s Spokane office were offered employment with the city’s first retail branch of Indymac Bank.

WEDNESDAY

Wendle Motors announced plans to close its dealership and showroom at Wellesley Avenue and Division Street and turn the space into a 70,000- square-foot retail mall called Northtown Square. The 120 employees that work there would move to the Wendle at the Y dealership, farther north, along with all the vehicles.

THURSDAY

Numbers released by the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis show Spokane’s personal and per capita income rates are growing at a faster pace than the national average, even though both still lag behind Seattle.

FRIDAY

Teenagers’ participation in the work force has been dropping steadily since 1978, when nearly half of all 16- and 17-year-olds had jobs. This year, 30 percent are working or looking for work.

“ The Spokane International Airport dedicated its new 271-foot-high control tower, which Federal Aviation Administration officials say will allow the airport to handle 55 more flights per day. The $29.8 million tower is the tallest in the state.

“ A $4.2 million project that will transform the 1907-era Western Soap building into The Edge condominiums should be complete by fall. The Edge Development Group LLC also acquired a building next door where it plans to create retail space.
