Nelson Street house fire was accidental, officials say

From Staff Reports The Spokesman-Review

Fire investigators have ruled accidental a fire that heavily damaged a house on Nelson Street on Tuesday.

The blaze was sparked by an electrical malfunction, said Assistant Chief Brian Schaeffer of the Spokane Fire Department. It spread in the top floor and attic, causing significant damage to the roof.

A 10-year-old boy warned his grandmother and mother as the fire started engulfing 3217 N. Nelson.

Five occupants – plus a dog and cats – escaped without injury, and firefighters were able to save most belongings.
