WNBA: Storm rout L.A. for season sweep
Lauren Jackson capped a likely MVP season with 32 points and 15 rebounds, and the Seattle Storm pulled away in the fourth quarter for a 97-77 victory over the Los Angeles Sparks on Friday night in Seattle.
Jackson, the WNBA leader in scoring and rebounding, topped the 30-point mark for the ninth time this season to set a league record, and Seattle finished off the regular season at 17-17.
Iziane Castro Marques added 24 points and Sue Bird scored 14 points and had eight assists for Seattle, which won all four games against L.A. this season.
Liberty 74, Sun 66: At New York, Cathrine Kraayeveld scored 18 points to help the Liberty tie with Washington for the final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference.
Erin Thorn had 13 points, Janel McCarville added 12 and Shameka Christon had 11 points and eight rebounds for New York (15-18), winners of five of eight since a season-high seven-game losing streak.
The fourth-place Liberty, who have the tiebreaker over the Mystics, host last-place Chicago on Sunday, while Washington visits the Sun.
Mercury 101, Monarchs 91: At Sacramento, Calif., Diana Taurasi scored 32 points and Phoenix clinched the top seed in the Western Conference playoffs.
Cappie Pondexter had 23 points for the Mercury, who made a season-high 15 3-pointers. They blew past the Monarchs in an outstanding second half for their 10th victory in 11 games at the close of the winningest regular season in franchise history.
Fever 59, Silver Spurs 55: At San Antonio, Tamika Whitmore made two late baskets to help Indiana hang on and wrap up the second spot in the playoffs.
The Fever (20-13) outscored the Silver Stars 14-0 over a stretch of 3 minutes, 22 seconds late in the fourth quarter, then held off a comeback bid.
Sophia Young scored 12 for San Antonio (20-13). Vickie Johnson had 11 and Becky Hammon added 10.
