California kids deprived

Concerned over children’s obesity, inactivity and detachment from the outdoors, California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger recently signed a proclamation supporting the California Children’s Outdoor Bill of Rights.

The bill includes 10 fun things every child should experience between the ages of 4 and 14, such as discovering California’s past, splashing in the water, playing in a safe place, camping under the stars, exploring nature, learning to swim, playing on a team, following a trail, catching a fish and celebrating their heritage.

Houseboat serves Roosevelt kayakers

What: Mothership Kayak Tour.

Who: For paddlers ages 18 and older, sponsored by Spokane Parks and Recreation.

New option for deer hunters

Applications are being accepted for special access to fall deer hunting on 6,300 acres of Okanogan County rangeland previously closed to public hunting.

Twenty hunters will be allowed access to private land near Oroville plus adjacent Nine Mile Creek land recently acquired by the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife as follows:

Five archers (Sept. 15-30), five muzzleloaders (Oct. 6-12), and 10 modern firearms hunters (Oct. 13-21).
