In brief: New development director hired
Spokane Valley has hired a new community development director to head its building and planning divisions and guide elected officials as they lay out the future of the city.
On Sept. 24, Kathryn McClung will join the city after 17 years with Federal Way, according to a release. There, she served as a land use administrator, deputy community development director and as community development director since 2001. She holds a bachelor’s degree in home economics from the University of Washington and a master’s in public administration from Evergreen State College, said city spokeswoman Carolbelle Branch.
McClung’s professional experience also includes management training with the University of Washington and positions in planning and code enforcement with Kent, Wash.
She replaces the city’s first community development director, Marina Sukup, who left recently to pursue a job in the private sector.
