KIRKLAND, Wash. – This time, the players didn’t sprint off the field, change clothes quickly and dash to the parking lot. When the Seattle Seahawks broke training camp Thursday afternoon, the scene was a little more relaxed.

No more driving across the state. No more reunions with loved ones. After a camp held at the same Eastside practice facility that will host the Seahawks next week and into the regular season, the official break of camp didn’t really feel all that different at all.

The schedule is really the only change now that training camp is officially over. Instead of taking part in two-a-days, the Seahawks will only have single afternoon practices.

While the players were in familiar surroundings in Kirkland, there were still adjustments to be made after spending the previous 12 training camps at Eastern Washington University in Cheney. Coach Mike Holmgren said the camp was a success despite the fact that there were plenty of available distractions on this side of the state.

“I think the guys have worked hard,” he said. “You know, I was concerned about having camp here. I like the idea of going away somewhere to camp. I will say this: The players upheld their end of the bargain beautifully.”

“Seahawks defensive tackle Marcus Tubbs has returned to practice for the first time since complicated knee surgery last November.

Saints dominate Chiefs

With one preseason game to go, Drew Brees was already showing off his Pro Bowl form.

The same cannot be said of the Kansas City Chiefs, as Brodie Croyle struggled and a nearly perfect Brees led the New Orleans Saints to a dominating 30-7 victory in Kansas City, Mo.

Playing in all but one series in the first half, Brees hit 17 of 19 passes against the first-team defense for 182 yards and one touchdown.

Jags take down Packers

The Green Bay Packers lost their unbeaten preseason record in a 21-13 setback to the Jacksonville Jaguars at Lambeau Field in Green Bay, Wis.

After sputtering under starting quarterback Byron Leftwich, the Jaguars’ offense woke up when backup David Garrard entered the game early in the third quarter. Playing against the Packers’ second-string defense, Garrard played two series and led the Jaguars (2-1) to two touchdowns.
