In brief: City buying land near Ferris
The Spokane City Council on Monday approved the purchase of property near Ferris High School for a long-sought project connection South Ray and Freya streets with a curving cross-over route.
The council approved a purchase and sale agreement with Michael and Patricia Gaines for the property at 3203 E. 37th Ave. for $183,000.
The $3.9 million project is currently listed in the six-year street plan, and is slated for construction in 2009, according to city documents. In the meantime, the city will lease the property to recapture a portion of the purchase cost prior to construction.
Engineers said the project is intended to help move traffic between Interstate 90 and the Palouse Highway.
